South Habersham Middle School honors local veterans with flag-raising ceremony

South Habersham Middle School turned its annual Veterans Day ceremony into a living history lesson.

For several hours on Friday morning, November 8, veterans manned learning stations at the school. Students visited the stations and participated in hands-on learning activities. They also spent time talking with and getting to know the veterans.

The living history lesson was followed by a special flag-raising ceremony in the school’s parking lot.

Students and staff joined dozens of veterans for the ceremony. They stood at attention as the U.S. and military branch flags were raised into the air in tribute to the service and sacrifice of all U.S. military veterans.

Habersham County’s schools are central gathering places for local Veterans Day events. The county’s three middle schools stagger their annual programs so that veterans are able to attend multiple events.

North Habersham Middle School will hold its annual Veterans Day ceremony on Monday, November 11, which is the actual Veterans Day federal holiday. The program will begin at 1 p.m. and will be held in the school’s gymnasium.

Veterans and their families, as well as other members of the community, are invited to attend.

North Habersham Middle School is located at 1500 Wall Bridge Road in Clarkesville.
