(Cleveland)- White County School officials report that they have made some progress in the effort to control and eventually eliminate vaping by students at the schools. On Monday February 25, new tougher rules went into effect for students caught vaping or with vaping paraphernalia on the school campus.

White County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Laurie Burkett reported on Monday after one full week of the new policies they are continuing to be diligent in their efforts to keep students safe.

Information provided by principals indicated that last week was an average week at both middle and high school. Two vapes were collected at the middle school and four at the high school. As time progresses school officials say they hope to see the number of students vaping at school continue to decrease.

The White County School System held two parent/community meetings prior to implementing the policies. The school system live-streamed the Feb. 25, 2019 session on Facebook (see below).

Burkett said, their education piece presented for students and teachers has been effective. Teachers are more vigilant because they are more aware of what to look for. Students are reporting other students who are vaping.

Each school will review information after one month of the new policy.
