“Soft opening” planned for Yonah Preserve Trails

(Cleveland)- It’s been a long time coming, but the White County Board of Commissioners approved Monday a “soft opening” date for a section of the 1,000 acres recreation area north of Cleveland know as Yonah Preserve.

For the past five years, since the county worked out an agreement with the state to lease the property, work has been underway designing and developing different areas of the property.

The county working with, Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association, (SORBA),  have constructed two hiking and mountain biking trails.

After hearing an update report on the trail work present by Clark Neal, with SORBA and Yonah Preserve Trail Project Coordinator, the commissioners announced that they will open the property for the public to use beginning Saturday June 2nd.

An excited Commission Chairman Travis turner said, this is going to be big. “These two trails have an opportunity to put White County on the map as far as tourism,” he said. “We’ve got  a tremendous opportunity with the hiking and biking trails. It’s an exciting time for our community.”

The trail section will be open June 2nd from 8 AM until 5 PM, then beginning the following week it will be open Thursday through Sunday 8 AM till 5 PM each week.

The public will access this section of the recreation area off  Albert Reid Road.

Turner encourages local residents to come take a  look at the new recreation area.
