As the sun set Saturday, the snowfall began; before the sun rose Sunday, it was already melting.
Northeast Georgia’s first snowstorm of the year didn’t linger, sticking around just long enough for snow-hungry Southerners to get a quick taste of the winter wonderland they’ve been craving.
The snowfall gave kids a chance to build a snowman and adventure seekers a chance to catch some quick thrills. One Now Habersham reader captured these images of a man being dragged in the snow by a tow rope tied to a pickup. Seems snow skiing in the South isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

The snow also lingered long enough for some drivers to wind up in ditches and with insurance claims.
Area law enforcement reports there were a few accidents that occurred on snow-covered roads last night, but no reports of any serious injuries.
This morning, most major roadways in the area are clear, still, law enforcement urges drivers to use caution.
“Secondary roads and main roads may have icy spots or may not be completely clear yet,” says Habersham County Sheriff’s Lt. Matthew Wurtz. “The roadways will clear up more as the sunshine/day progresses. If you don’t have to travel at this time, wait till later during the day when conditions are better.”
Slightly farther south in Hall County, the Georgia State Patrol says roads are wet but appear clear.
“There is a build up of slush still on the shoulders but I expect that will be gone soon this morning as temperatures rise,” says GSP Post 6 Assistant Commander Sgt. Major Patterson.
“The current road conditions for Rabun, Habersham, and Stephens are good,” says Sgt. Josh Hedden of GSP Post 7 in Toccoa. “Still need to be cautious on bridges and secondary roads as these may not have been treated as much as main roads.”
Habersham EMC and Georgia Power reported scattered power outages in and around Habersham County early Sunday affecting several hundred customers.
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Habersham and Rabun Counties until noon today. All other advisories and warnings have been canceled.
