The Sautee Nacoochee Center (SNC) will present Fiber Festival in the Valley!, a day dedicated to celebrating and learning about all things fiber. And by fiber, we don’t mean dietary fiber or high-speed internet.
The Fiber Festival takes place over two days, Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14. Friday is dedicated to workshops taught by local fiber artists. Saturday is all about fun. With vendors from near and far, demonstrations of fiber art skills, fiber animals such as rabbits, alpaca and sheep, along with music, food vendors and two raffles, Fiber Fest is an event for all ages!
Four workshops will be offered on Friday:
Mixed Media with Alice Berg is a full-day class on Abstract Collage with fabric, paper, buttons, paint and more. It promises to be a very colorful experience.
Needle Tatting with Cindy Grace is a half-day class on tatting. So many of us regret not picking up this skill from their mother or grandmother!
3D Fiber Flowers with Bev Mannes is a half-day class that will have you addicted to making a flower garden on your quilts.
Needle Felting with Holly Williams will teach you to make an adorable ‘possum using Needle Felting techniques. This half-day class is perfect for beginners.
These full and half-day workshops are geared mostly to beginners. Pre-register at www.snca.org or email [email protected]. Advanced registration is requ
ired.
Saturday’s Festival is on the SNC campus and runs from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Over 20 fiber art vendors will be set-up across the campus. A handmade quilt made and donated by Jane Threlkeld (quilted by Cathy Bavington) will be raffled as will a Cabbage Patch Kids Preemie named Gail Abbie. Additionally, the exhibit “Weaving a Little Magic”, which includes up-cycled creations, is on display in the Cultural Center along with historic quilts in the History Museum.
