
The city of Sky Valley in Rabun County has announced a new chief of police to lead the force.
Sky Valley, incorporated in 1978, is a city in northern Rabun County with a population of just over 400.
On Tuesday, Feb. 18, the city announced the appointment of Ronald Baumes, a U.S. Army veteran, to lead the department.
Baumes, who began his law enforcement career in 2005 with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office, has been a member of the Sky Valley Police Department since 2011, rising through the ranks from officer to lieutenant.
Baumes has been married to his wife, Annette, for 30 years. He is a proud father of six children, grandfather to 14 and great-grandfather to one.
“Please join us in congratulating Chief Baumes on his new role,” the city posted on Facebook. “We look forward to his leadership and service to our community.”
