Officials are working to determine what caused a house in Sky Lake to catch fire over the weekend.
The house on Deerpath Drive in Sautee went up in flames around 4 p.m. Sunday. White County firefighters responded to the scene along with Automatic Aid from the City of Helen and the Lee Arrendale Fire Brigade (L.A.C.I.).
When they arrived, the 1500 square foot wooden structure was completely engulfed in flames, according to White County Fire Services’ Ana Newberry.
“According to firefighters, there was no one home at the time of the call, however, one of the occupants came home to find that the smoke alarms were sounding and there was smoke throughout the home,” says Newberry. She says the occupant called 911.
The White County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Rehab truck was requested. Firefighters remained on the scene for five hours. No injuries were reported and Red Cross assistance was declined.
