Six Hart County eighth grade students were recognized and presented $10,000 in future financial support Tuesday as part of the school system’s Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen (REACH) program.

REACH Georgia was launched by former Gov. Nathan Deal in 2012 and adopted by the Hart County School System (REACH Hart) in 2018.

The program aims to encourage Hart County Charter System students to seek higher education and expand their options for future careers.

This year’s REACH recipients are:

  • Jamal Eberhardt
  • Xavier Johnson
  • Devin Nguyen
  • Garrett Ray
  • Analia Sanchez
  • Miya Spears

Since its inception, more than 100 Georgia school systems and over 1,200 students now participate in the mentoring and scholarship program.

The donor-supported program begins in the 8th grade and targets academically promising students and potential first generation college graduates.

Upon being selected, a REACH scholar is then paired with a volunteer community mentor and an academic coach – both of whom strive to guide the student throughout their middle and high school years.

REACH scholars also participate in special programs and events intended to prepare them for college completion and future career paths.
