LaGRANGE, Ga. – The Piedmont women’s soccer team scored early and held on late in a 1-0 win at LaGrange on Wednesday night in CCS competition.
It was sisters Christina and Victoria Sierra that combined to give the Lions the only goal they needed in the early going, as they connected in the game’s second minute.
This marked older sister Victoria’s first goal of the season and Christina’s second assist of the campaign.
The Lions controlled play throughout the first half, holding a 7-2 shot advantage over the Panthers. However, LaGrange’s goalkeeper Anna Wright made four first half saves to keep the Lions from extending their lead.
Protecting a one goal lead in the second half, Piedmont played a more defensive game, as LaGrange furiously mounted an attack to attempt to equalize.
Piedmont junior goalkeeper Haylee Dornan stepped up when called upon, making three of her four saves in the final 45 minutes of action.
Up next, the Lions will try to continue their strong play, returning home to step out of conference and host future CCS foe Asbury this Saturday, Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. The game will also serve as Senior Day, as a substantial group of Lions will be honored prior to the contest.
