Shooting lands one man in hospital, another in jail

Hall County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Gainesville man early Thursday morning for a shooting that seriously wounded a man. Officials say the two were arguing outside a home in the 4000 block of Forest Circle when the shooting occurred.

Around 12:30 a.m., deputies responded to the scene after receiving a report that a man had been shot in the chest. Hall County Fire Rescue transported the victim, Rigoberto D. Medrano, 50, of Gainesville, to the hospital with serious but apparent non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the initial investigation, the suspect, Abraham E. Trujillo, 46, of Gainesville, brandished a handgun at Medrano during their argument. The two got into a physical altercation and the gun discharged, striking Medrano, the sheriff’s office says.

Trujillo left the scene in an SUV after the incident.

The sheriff’s office says deputies and an Oakwood police officer located Trujillo’s vehicle on Ga. 53/Dawsonville Highway, stopped it, and arrested him without incident.

Investigators obtained a warrant for Trujillo, charging him with aggravated assault. They booked him at the Hall County Jail where he remained as of Thursday, evening, June 8.

The sheriff’s office says the case remains under investigation.
