Investigators say 21-year-old Leighton Beaux Marchetta appeared intoxicated when he arrived at the Georgia State Patrol Post on the Cleveland Highway around 8 am this morning.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Marchetta got out of his ford pickup armed with a rifle and yelled something to the effect of “You guys are going to have to kill me!” at two troopers who were in the parking lot. Marchetta then fired a shot. Troopers warned him back but he kept advancing and fired again.
One trooper returned fire striking Marchetta in the shoulder. He then dropped the rifle and allowed officers to handcuff him. No one else was injured in the exchange.
Marchetta was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in stable condition. He is currently under the supervision of armed officers.
There is no obvious connection between Marchetta and the state troopers involved but the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the situation.
