Traffic is down to one lane along the Demorest stretch of Hwy. 441 between Yonah Memorial Gardens and the old Demorest Elementary School due to work being done on the city’s sewer system.

Work on the City of Demorest’s sewer system is causing traffic tie-ups along Hwy. 441. Demorest Public Utilities Director Bryan Popham says the city has hired a subcontractor to replace sewerlines. They are “jumping from manhole to manhole” and expect the work to be completed within two weeks. Popham says crews won’t always be working along Hwy. 441 – Demorest’s main thoroughfare – but he says drivers should expect intermittent delays over the course of the next several weeks.

Popham says the sewer upgrades are expected to enhance overall service and prevent line breaks and other potential emergencies caused by aging pipes.
