Severe Thunderstorm Watch extended to 9 p.m. for parts of North Georgia

The National Weather Service has extended its Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect now until 9 p.m. for parts of North Georgia.

The watch area includes the counties of Banks, Barrow, Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Cherokee, Clarke, Cobb, Dade, Dawson, Dekalb, Douglas, Elbert, Fannin, Floyd, Forsyth, Franklin, Fulton, Gilmer, Gordon, Gwinnett, Habersham, Hall, Haralson, Hart, Jackson, Lumpkin, Morgan, Murray, Newton, Oconee, Paulding, Pickens, Polk, Rabun, Rockdale, Stephens, Towns, Union, Walker, Walton, White, and Whitfield.

The primary hazards with these storms will be damaging wind gusts of 50-70
mph, with an isolated 80 mph possible. Secondary hazards include large hail, lightning, and the possibility of a brief tornado.
