Seven candidates qualify for Demorest City Council special election

The top two vote-getters in the November 3 Demorest City Council Special Election will succeed outgoing councilman Sean Moore (front, far left) and former councilman Bruce Harkness.

Seven candidates have qualified to run for two open seats on the Demorest City Council. The following candidates will be on the ballot in the November 3 Special Election:

  • Shawn Allen
  • Keith Andrews
  • Matthew Crews
  • Russell C. Goldsmith
  • Amanda Crump Mason
  • Jerry R. Mobley
  • Jim Welborn

The top two vote-getters in the race will fill the unexpired terms of Bruce Harkness and Sean Moore.

Harkness vacated his council seat earlier this year to run for Habersham County Commission. He was elected to the commission in the August 11 Republican primary runoff against incumbent District 4 Commissioner Natalie Crawford.

Moore is moving away from Demorest and will be resigning this fall, prior to the November 3 election.

Both terms expire on Dec. 31, 2021.
