The Georgia State Patrol has released the name of the driver killed in a wreck Sunday morning on GA 365 in Mt. Airy. He’s identified as Ernesto Santaclara Jimenez, 47, of Mt Airy.
Jimenez was killed in a two-vehicle accident at 10:34 a.m. on September 15 at the intersection of Hazel Creek Road and GA 365. TFC3 Spencer Munger says alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in the wreck.
Munger says Jiminez was traveling east on Hazel Creek Road in a 2003 Lexus IS300 and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection. The Lexus ran into the path of a southbound 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 pulling a 5th wheel camper.
The three people in the pickup were injured. They’re identified as Jimmy Davis, Jr., 80, Sandra Adams, 76, and James Adams, 78, all of Doerun, Georgia. Habersham County Emergency Services transported them to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment. Their injuries were non-life threatening, according to GSP.
Trooper Munger says all three occupants in the pickup were restrained. Jiminez was not restrained and was trapped inside the vehicle. Habersham County Emergency Services personnel extricated him from the wreckage.
The accident temporarily shut down traffic near the crash site.
