Level Grove Road between Wayside Street and Hoyt Street in Cornelia is back open to traffic after being closed for much of the day Wednesday.
A large tree fell Wednesday morning, knocking down power poles and blocking the roadway near L&D Florist. It took public works and utility crews nearly 10 hours to clear the debris and install new power poles
Georgia Power reported that nearly 900 people were initially without power following the incident. Crews restored electrical service by early afternoon. However, it took longer to reopen the road because of the large amount of debris that had to be cleared.
Cornelia Police alerted the public to the road hazard early on the morning of May 28, cautioning the community about the extended road closure.
