Second suspect arrested in Cleveland assault, kidnapping

Another suspect has been arrested in the assault and kidnapping a man earlier this month in Cleveland. White County Sheriff’s deputies took Aca Daniel Iacono into custody on December 20 at a residence on Judy’s Drive. The 35-year-old Marietta man is charged in connection with an incident December 4 at an apartment complex on Bryant Street.

35-year-old Cleveland resident Jeread David Grizzle was already in jail for the crime. Police arrested him as he tried to drive away from the scene on the night of the crime with the injured victim in the bed of his truck.

Cleveland Police Chief Jeff Shoemaker said at the time that Grizzle assaulted the man and was trying to remove him from the scene when officers arrived.

“It was later determined that an additional suspect was involved in the assault and had fled prior to the officers’ arrival,” Shoemaker says.

Investigators determined the assault was the result of an ongoing dispute between known parties. It “was not a random act of violence,” Shoemaker says. Police have not publicly released the victim’s name.

A 911 caller alerted police to the altercation and said weapons were involved. Officers arrived in time to rescue the injured man.

Police charged Iacono and Grizzle with kidnapping, false imprisonment, aggravated assault, battery, criminal damage to property, and charges related to criminal street gang activity. Grizzle was also charged with DUI. Both suspects remain in the White County Detention Center without bond.

The Cleveland Police Department and Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office are still investigating the case. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Lt. Sims at 706-865-2111.
