The morning long search for a Habersham County man accused of torching his family’s home is over. Officials say Jeffrey Jones was arrested in White County without incident.
Jones is accused of setting fire to his residence near Alto early this morning while members of his family were still inside.
Habersham County Sheriff’s Captain Floyd Canup says firefighters and deputies responded to the structure fire on Mt. Zion Road around 3:30 a.m.
“During the incident it was determined that the fire was the result of a domestic dispute,” says Canup. “All parties escaped the residence without major injury.”
Jones fled the scene in a blue, 2012 Ford Focus prior to law enforcement and fire units arriving. He was believed to be in possession of two handguns and was considered dangerous.
Officials have not released any further details about his arrest.
