Authorities are still searching for the armed robber who held up a gold mine store near Dahlonega. According to the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect – a heavyset, white man wearing a black Cincinnati Bengal’s jacket – entered the Crisson Gold Mine Store on Morrison Moore Parkway around 4:27 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3. The man pulled a gun on the two store employees and threatened to harm them if they called law enforcement.
The suspect got away with a number of valuables, including the employees’ cell phones, money, jewelry, and raw gold nuggets. After the robber left, the workers called the police. The sheriff’s office says the employees were not physically harmed but were “visibly shaken by the incident.”
The sheriff’s office released surveillance images of the suspect. He’s described as a white male, 5’7″ to 5’10” tall, weighing approximately 225 pounds. In addition to the Bengals jacket, the suspect was wearing a ball cap, black mask, light-colored blue jeans, and black boots and was carrying a black duffel bag.
Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard put out a video on social media asking the public to report anything suspicious they might have seen in the area of Cavender Creek Road and the Highway 19 Bypass near Dahlonega on the day of the robbery.
“We want to exhaust everything that we possibly can to make an arrest on this,” he said. “Please call us if you saw anything, whether it be at the gas station on the highway, a vehicle that was sparked suspiciously, or someone walking – anything you saw between 3 and 5 p.m. on February 3 at this intersection, please let us know.”
