An escaped Banks County inmate is back in custody, nearly 24 hours after fleeing from the recreation area at the jail Thursday night.

Banks County Sheriff’s Sgt. Carissa McFadden says Paul Dylan Gross was captured on Trout Lane by K9 officers around 6 p.m. Friday, March 11.

“We received a phone call from a citizen in reference to a male subject matching his description running through a residential yard located on Trout Lane,” McFadden says in a recorded press release. “Our units then responded quickly, set up a tight perimeter and deployed K9 units onto the ground.”

She says K9 units were able to locate a fresh track where Gross was captured a short time later.

McFadden expresses thanks to the many law agencies that assisted in the search, including GSP Aviation, Hall, Jackson, Madison and Franklin County Sheriff’s Offices along with the Lee Arrendale State Prison K9 unit.

Gross fled from the Banks County Jail at approximately 6:55 p.m. Thursday. His escape prompted a manhunt involving multiple agencies including the Banks County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol Aviation.

Gross was being held on burglary, theft by receiving and obstruction charges.
