A 48-year-old Athens man was arrested by Stephens County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputies early Tuesday after a Monday night manhunt following a violent disturbance.
At approximately 5:51 p.m. on Monday, November 11, deputies responded to a call regarding a disturbance at a residence in the Whispering Woods area of Martin. Upon arrival, they were informed that the male caller and a female homeowner had been threatened by a man with a knife.
According to deputies, the caller reported that he had recently confronted Clinton Miller, 48, after the subject, who had been staying at the home, became aggressive. The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, during which Miller allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and threatened both the male and female victims.
The victims told deputies that Miller had been asked to leave but refused to do so, leading to the altercation. Following the threatening behavior, Miller reportedly fled the scene on foot after hearing the victims call 911.
When deputies arrived on scene, they determined that Miller had already left the premises, though his exact whereabouts were unknown. The SCSO K-9 Unit was deployed to track him down, with K-9s Reba and Lady attempting to follow his scent.
A drone was also used to gain an aerial view of the area, but neither search method proved successful in locating Miller. Additionally, deputies placed a ping on a phone in Miller’s possession and expanded their search radius.
By 9:30 p.m., after several hours of searching, deputies called off the manhunt, believing that Miller had been picked up by a passing vehicle.
The search resumed the following day. At approximately 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, the SCSO Special Tactics and Investigative Group (S.T.I.N.G.) received a tip indicating that Miller had returned to the residence he fled from the previous night. With a warrant for his arrest on charges of aggravated assault, deputies entered the home and located Miller without incident.
Miller was taken into custody and transported to the Stephens County Detention Center. His bond was set at $20,000. In addition to the assault charge, he has been issued a temporary restraining order from the superior court on behalf of the male victim.
