Habersham County’s school system has received two audit reports on its financial records for fiscal 2014, and both auditor “opinions” are the best a school system can receive.
That was the information given by Chief Financial Officer Staci Newsome at the Board of Education meeting Monday night. Newsome referred to the State Department of Audits’ report and another – the Public Schools Employment Retirement System audit – for fiscal 2014, both of which, she said, contained only positive findings.
The fiscal – or budget – year for the Board of Education begins on July 1 and ends on June 30. Monday night, Newsome also gave her department’s budget report for the current fiscal year.
“We’re in good shape financially,” she said of the current budget year, “with 16.67 percent of the year complete.” Board of Education member Rick Williams clarified the audits and the current year financial report for the audience, saying, “We’re OK.”
