School system to provide meals through summer

Students will continue to receive free meals through the summer months.

The Habersham County School System has provided meals to thousands of students throughout the recent school closures and will continue to feed students throughout the summer months.

The School Nutrition Department will provide a summer meal program to any child 18 years or younger. This program will begin on June 1 and continue through July 23.

“The Habersham County School System recognizes that the current situation in our community has resulted in additional needs for meal support for many Habersham County children,” says School Nutrition Director Andrea Thomas. “In response to this need, the summer meals program will be greatly expanded this summer to include 13 sites for drive-thru meal pickup.”

Meals will be available Monday through Thursday each week. Thursday’s meal will include food for Friday. Drive-thru meal service will be available beginning June 1 at the following locations and times:

  • Baldwin Elementary 12:05 – 12:25 p.m.
  • Cornelia Elementary 11:30 – 12:30 p.m.
  • Clarkesville Elementary 11:30 – 12:30 p.m.
  • Demorest Elementary 11:30 – 12:30 p.m.
  • Fairview Elementary 11:15 – 11:35 a.m.
  • Hazel Grove Elementary 11:45 a.m. – 12:05 p.m.
  • Level Grove Elementary 11:45 a.m. – 12:05 p.m.
  • Woodville Elementary 12:20 – 12:40 p.m.

Meals also will be available Monday through Thursday at the following community drive-thru locations and times:

  • Old Ingles parking lot, Clarkesville Station on Historic 441 in Clarkesville 11:10-11:30 a.m.
  • Meadowbrook Community Laundry, 830 W. Airport Road, Baldwin 11:10 – 11:30 a.m.
  • Whispering Woods Community, 230 Wayside Street, Cornelia 11:40 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Alto Baptist Church, 210 BC Grant Road, Alto 12:45 – 1 p.m.
