CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — The Habersham County Board of Education will hear presentations on student mental health, community partnerships and school facilities during a work session Wednesday afternoon.
The agenda includes an update from Candice Holcomb, president and CEO of United Way of Habersham County, followed by a presentation from school district mental health specialists Miriam Duncan, Angie Kerr and Kelsey Ondriezek.
Earlier this year, the three specialists outlined sweeping efforts to expand counseling and crisis intervention services for students, including the addition of school-based therapists, trauma-informed training for staff and closer coordination with local health agencies. The program is designed to address rising concerns about anxiety, depression and suicide risk among school-age children.
Assistant Superintendent David Leenman, Finance Director Staci Newsome and Plant Operations Manager Denise Gunn will deliver the district’s facilities report. The board will also meet in executive session to discuss personnel and real estate matters.
The work session is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the school district’s board room in Clarkesville.
