A Cornelia man has been indicted on felony murder charges in connection with the April 19th shooting death of 33-year old Jesse Looney of Demorest. District Attorney George Christian says 56-year old Tommy Savage was indicted today during a special session of the Habersham County Grand Jury. Jurors indicted him on ten counts including murder, felony murder, four counts of aggravated assault and four counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Savage was arrested inside his home at 1718 Garrison Road after a more than six-hour standoff with police. Authorities say he shot Looney and another man, 26-year old Brandon Stephens, during an apparent domestic dispute. Stephens was shot in the arm. He was treated and released from Habersham Medical Center. A woman who was with the two men, 37-year old Amanda Jill Callahan, was not injured.

The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office released a statement after the shooting saying, “A homemade explosive device was recovered from the deceased person’s pocket.” It was disposed of by the GBI bomb unit. No further details about the device Looney allegedly had have been released.
The GBI is in charge of the investigation. Spokesperson Nelly Miles says the agency has “no updates to report at this time.”
