Better late than never, they say. That certainly held true in Clarkesville on Saturday (Dec. 15) as people gathered to enjoy A Downtown Clarkesville Christmas.

The annual outdoor event was originally scheduled for December 8 but winter weather caused organizers to postpone it.

When the night finally did come, it attracted a small but cheerful crowd. They gathered around the gazebo for pictures with Santa, hot chocolate, and s’mores. The Kip’s Crew chorus from Clarkesville Elementary School sang on stage and Mayor Barrie Aycock led revelers in lighting the town’s Christmas tree.

The festive atmosphere provided the perfect backdrop for holiday shopping. Downtown stores stayed open late and many people took advantage of the extended hours to whittle down their Christmas wish lists.
