Two Habersham County 16-year-olds who were missing for three weeks are back home, safe with their families.
Joseph Attard of Cornelia and his girlfriend Dorothy Krei of Clarkesville were picked up by police in Asheville, North Carolina, Attard’s mom says.
“They were in a group of homeless and street performers and the police were doing warrant checks,” Penny Welborn tells Now Habersham. “They tried giving fake names, so, they ran them through the system and they came back as runaways.”
Welborn and Tammy Krei, Dorothy’s mom, went to Asheville on Sunday to pick up their children.
“They are both home, now, safe,” Welborn says.
Attard and Krei ran away from home on September 17. Their families had been searching for them ever since, even offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to their safe return.
Welborn desperately sought to find her son, frequently posting updates on social media, asking people to keep an eye out for the teens and to pray.
“Just thank you,” she says to the community at large that responded to her pleas for help. “Thank you for the prayers, the messages, the tips and for everyone looking for them for sharing their faces far and wide. The community outreach we received was amazing and we can’t thank everyone enough. We are just so happy to have them home where they belong.”
