Ruby Joyce Christopher Freeman, age 80 of Cornelia, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2019.
Born in Gainesville, Georgia on May 29, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Cameron Harold (C.H.) and Grace Elizabeth Morrison Christopher. Mrs. Freeman worked in several capacities throughout her early life including Gold’s Department Store in Cornelia, the State of Georgia, Stamey Chevrolet in Cleveland and other clerical positions. Upon the birth of her children, however, she committed her life to the service of her family as a Godly wife and mother and devoted homemaker. She was a very active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, serving in the Ladies Club and supporting her husband while he worked as Deacon, Church Clerk and Brotherhood Director. She was also an active participant in the Habersham County Choir and Convention Singing, loving the old-fashioned shaped-note style music. Mrs. Freeman loved reading, sewing, and spending time with her family and grandchildren, church and community.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Freeman; a son, Jerald B. Freeman; sister, Sandra Alexander.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Joel & Cindy Freeman of Demorest; daughter-in-law, Nicole Freeman of Cornelia; grandchildren, Jaden Beth Freeman, Zachary Freeman and Lillie Grace Freeman; brother, David Christopher of Cornelia; sister, Carol Chastain of Cornelia; several nieces and nephews. Her love for her family, both immediate and extended, didn’t go unnoticed as she was always interested in their welfare, continually praying for all.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, April 19, 2019, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
