The Georgia State Patrol has identified the two people injured in a wreck early Friday in northern Habersham County. Dalton Chase Palmer and April Lee, both 24 of Blairsville, were hurt when the 2006 Honda Civic Palmer was driving crashed on Hwy. 356 at Odis Barron Road.
He was charged with DUI and other violations as a result of the accident.
The State Patrol says Palmer lost control of the car in a curve. It ran off the shoulder of the road and struck an embankment. The car then overturned multiple times. While overturning it struck a sign. The car settled upright in the northbound lane of Odis Barron Road.
The wreck happened around 7 a.m. When first responders got to the scene, they found Palmer outside the vehicle. He was injured but ambulatory, according to Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black. Lee was still inside the car with serious injuries. Because the crash was on the far north end of the county, emergency personnel called in a helicopter to transport her to the hospital.
AirLife 2 flew Lee to the trauma center at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Habersham EMS transported Palmer to Habersham County Medical Center in Demorest.
In addition to DUI, Palmer was charged with failure to maintain lane, tire requirements, and causing serious injury by vehicle.
