As we wake this Easter Sunday of 2023 I suspect it has a different meaning to nearly every one of us. For some it is a day of worship, some a day of family, and for others just another day of work. For me it has always been a bit of all three.
For nature and landscape photographers, Easter is the unofficial beginning of spring. The time of the year when all things, both spiritual and natural, are made new. As the sun rises over the coming days more and more flowers will begin to bloom and trees will bud, turning the world green once again.
As the flowers bloom, nature photographers and nature lovers will join forces and descend upon areas all over the southern Appalachians that bring so much variety in color and shape.
Butterflies and songbirds will begin their migrations to warmer pastures as the sun glides north. Butterfly chasers such as myself will seek out the Swallowtails and Monarchs that are so common in our backyards. Hummingbirds and honeybees will also join us once more.
Warmer temperatures and sunshine-y skies no doubt lie ahead. No matter how bad things may seem to be in the world, a little patience is all that is needed for things to be made new once again.
Have a great week and Happy Easter.
