Toccoa, Ga. – Georgia DOT announces part of Fieldcrest Drive and Meadowbrook Drive closest to Highway 17 is now closed for a maximum of 30 days, if weather permits. The grade of Fieldcrest Drive must be raised six feet and the grade of Meadowbrook Drive must be lowered by nine feet to match the grade of the new Highway 17.
“We will be using the dirt that is removed from Meadowbrook Drive to raise Fieldcrest Drive, making the most efficient use of time and resources so about 1,000 feet of each road closest to the intersection with SR 17 will be closed. The detour route will direct traffic from State Route 17 to the Toccoa Bypass then to Highway 145 then to Meadowbrook Industrial Road allowing access to Fieldcrest or Meadowbrook. Please slow down and use extra caution as people get used to this detour next week,” explained Brent Cook, Georgia DOT District Engineer serving Stephens County.
This 3.13 miles widening project upgrades SR 17 to a four lane divided highway with sidewalks from Fieldcrest Road to Memorial Drive. The contract for construction was awarded to C.W. Matthews Contracting of Marietta for $20 million. Road work is required to be completed by April 30, 2016.
