A dozen teams around the area took to the gridiron. While many dreams are still alive, Friday proved the end of the line for some of our local teams.
CLASS 6A
#3 Habersham Central 35, #2 Douglas County 0
The Raiders went in and totally dominated Dodge County on the road for the first playoff win since the Tavarres King days (2007). Douglas County was favored by 10 points by Maxpreps, and came in allowing 12.7 points per game, but Hab Central didn’t care. Great win for this senior class and coach Benji Harrison!
Next up, the Raiders take on #1 seed Creekview.
CLASS 4A
#1 Pickens 42, #4 White County 0
White County fell 42-0 in Jasper to close the book on the 2018 season, which marked just the second time in school history the Warriors made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons.
CLASS 3A
#2 Dawson County 44, #3 Haralson County 22
The Tigers had to work against the top RB in the state, but Sevaughn Clark (nearly 300 total yards) and Ahmad Kamara (175 yds) showed why perhaps they might own that title instead with the program’s fifth playoff win of all-time and fourth in the Sid Maxwell era (2015-present).
#3 Westminster 35, #2 Jefferson 7
The Maxpreps spread was 4 in favor of Westminster, but the visitors just throttled the Dragons early and often. Jefferson’s first round exit is the first of its kind in quite some time, but a great season nonetheless as the Dragons were plagued with a series of injuries to key players.
CLASS 2A
#1 Rabun County 65, #4 Spencer 0
History was made in Tiger with the largest margin of victory ever, the first playoff shutout, the fourth straight 10-win season and more…Gunner Stockton threw for six touchdowns and ran for another. Both Austin Jones and Braxton Hicks had three receiving TDs apiece. FULL STORY/HIGHLIGHTS
#3 Bremen 40, #2 Union County 10
Union was robbed with a bad draw in the first round yet again. The Panthers’ amazing season came to a close against powerhouse Bremen, who held true to their season averages (35.4 pts/game; 11 pts allowed/game).
CLASS 1A
#9 Commerce 42, #24 Seminole County 6
The Tigers survive and advance with a big sigh of relief…the two-game losing streak is history. On to the next round.
THE REST
#1 Buford 35, #4 Miller Grove 13
#2 Ridgeland 34, #3 Flowery Branch 14
#3 North Hall 41, #2 Lakeview, FO 6
#1 Creekside 47, #4 Gainesville 12
Riverside Military 24, George Walton Academy 14
