Ritchie declines county clerk job; search resumes

On Monday, June 28, the Habersham County Board of Commissioners voted 3-1 in an open session to extend an offer for the county clerk’s position to Lisa Ritchie.

Today, the county released a statement saying Ritchie declined the offer. The county did not say why but sources close to the search say Ritchie was reluctant to accept a position for which she was not unanimously approved, among other reasons.

Now Habersham reached out to Ritchie for comment but has not heard back.

“The Habersham County Board of Commissioners is working to establish a plan moving forward to fill the job vacancy,” the county’s statement reads. “The public will be notified as new information becomes available.”

Commissioners have been searching for a county clerk since Lindsay Underwood announced her resignation in May. According to the county website, the position was posted on May 10. Those interested in the job may apply online through the county website.
