Demorest, GA – Members of the 2014 Piedmont College softball team were on hand during halftime of Sunday’s Lady Lion basketball win over Huntingdon College to receive their championship rings after
having claimed last season’s USA South title.
In all, 17 Lady Lions who were apart of last year’s magical run through the league’s championship tournament were a part of the championship ring ceremony along with coaches Brooke Hull and Head Coach Terry Martin.
Piedmont softball cruised through the 2014 USA South regular season with a 23-1 record to lay claim to the league’s regular season title, but needed to be more perfect in the league’s championship tournament after falling in their postseason opener to LaGrange in the double elimination event.
However, PC was up to the task winning six straight games including four one-run decisions, three of which came on Championship Sunday as the Lady Lions won championship game #2 coming from two runs down in the bottom of the 7th to win the title.
Over the last five seasons, the Piedmont softball program has won three conference tournament titles, four regular season crowns, and made four NCAA National Tournament appearances.
In their last three NCAA postseason trips, the Lady Lions have finished in the Regional Finals on the footsteps of the program’s first-ever College World Series appearance as a Division III member.
