Multiple White County agencies responded to a wreck on Richard Russell Scenic Highway Tuesday, Oct. 29, after a tractor-trailer flatbed truck ran 100 yards off the roadway and injured the driver.

Richard Russell Scenic Highway remains closed to traffic as crews continue to work to clear the scene.

First responders arrived on scene at 9:30 p.m. after an initial report that the driver of the semi-truck was “ejected from the vehicle upon impact,” according to authorities.

The caller who reported the accident to White County 911 guided first responders to the wreck site, where the driver was treated before they were transported by White County EMS to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

White County officials say the semi was operated by Tomahawk Crane and Rigging of Chattanooga, Tenn.

Due to the size of the vehicle and the extent of the wreck, officials said Payne’s Wrecker Service and its Emergency Spill Response Team were called in to assist.
