State investigators have ruled a Mountain City house fire as arson. Now, they’re asking for the community’s help to find whoever is responsible.
The 80-year-old structure at 354 Electric Avenue sustained minor damage in a fire that broke out around 5 p.m. on May 24. Rabun County firefighters say it started in the attic. The 1,000-square-foot residence was vacant and under renovation at the time.
“We are asking for the help of the community to bring the individual(s) responsible to justice and encourage anyone with information to call our anonymous tip line,” urges State Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John King in a statement.
The State Fire Investigations Unit is assisting the Rabun County Fire Department with its investigation. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered by Georgia Arson Control for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
Anyone with information about the Mountain City fire is encouraged to call the state’s anonymous hotline at 1-800-282-5804.
