Rev. Guy Williamson, age 87, of Clarkesville, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, following an extended illness.
Rev. Williamson was born on May 22, 1936, in Newport, Tennessee, to the late Lem and Savannah Connard Williamson. Rev. Williamson a devoted minister who faithfully served the Congregational Holiness Church for over 50 years. Rev. Williamson’s unwavering commitment to his faith, his community, and his family has left an indelible mark on the congregations he shepherded including Mt. Olive Congregational Holiness Church in Columbia, SC, Union Grove, Cleveland, GA, and Royston Congregational Holiness Church in Royston, GA. Rev. Williamson had also served as the Youth Director for the Congregational Holiness Church East Carolina Conference. Known for his deep love for both church and family, Rev. Williamson also had a deep enjoyment of Gospel Music.
Beyond the pulpit, Rev. Williamson was a United States Air Force Veteran, having served for eight years. He also found solace and joy in his hobbies. A dedicated gardener, he cultivated a vibrant vegetable garden (including this year), adorned his yard with an array of colorful flowers, and nurtured fruit trees with care. His love for the land extended to the companionship of goats and chickens, creating a lively and nurturing environment around his home. A man of simple pleasures, Rev. Williamson cherished long walks and the company of a good book. His role as “grandpa” to his grandchildren was one he embraced with joy, leaving a legacy of love and warmth that will endure through generations. In addition to his ministry, Rev. Williamson attended Victory Baptist Church.
As we mourn the passing of Rev. Guy Williamson, let us remember and celebrate the life of a man whose dedication to faith, family, and community touched the hearts of all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Burl and Leonard; sisters, Ester, Jetta, Etta, and Mary; and his beloved dog, Buddy.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Annette Williamson, of Clarkesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Ronda and Sam Hanson, of Demorest; Rena and Gary Payne, of Cleveland; grandchildren, Chrystal Bryana Reed and her spouse, Scott; Beth McArther, Gage Barnard, A.J. Lackner, Mark Payne and his spouse, Amanda; Josh Payne and his spouse, Catherine; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Vic Williamson, of Winder;
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 17, 2023, at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, with Rev. Shane Jenkins and Rev. Ronald Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 16, 2023 at the funeral home.
