Resort cabin burns in White County

An investigator with the State Fire Marshal’s Office is working to determine what caused a rental cabin at a local resort to burn overnight.

White County firefighters were dispatched to 101 Adventure Way at Mountain Lakes around 11:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2. Fire units arrived and found a three-story multi-unit type rental cabin about 60% involved.

According to White County Public Safety Director David Murphy, firefighters made a defensive attack knocking the fire down so firefighters could enter the building. They then made an interior attack, stopping the fire from spreading into the other apartments.

Only one apartment sustained fire damage. There was smoke damage in the other units, Murphy says.

Fire units from Cleveland, Helen, and Lee Arrendale assisted with the call. White County EMS and the State Fire Marshal’s investigator also responded. No one was injured. Personnel cleared the scene at 3:30 Tuesday morning.
