First responders have blocked a portion of Tommy Irvin Road after a residential fire at a 2,000-square-foot Mt. Airy home Wednesday, Jan. 22.

Drivers for now should avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

Multiple agencies responded at 11:19 a.m. to find the fire in the basement of the home, according to Habersham County spokesperson Rob Moore. Moore said no injuries occurred during the blaze, which has since been extinguished.

Road crews are likely to respond to treat the road – which accumulated water from fire crews on scene – amid near-freezing temperatures.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to Moore.
