U.S. News & World Report is out with its rankings of the best high schools in Georgia and two local counties get bragging rights. Of the Georgia schools ranked in 2015 for the report’s Best High Schools list, 19 were awarded gold medals, 45 earned silver medals and 69 received bronze medals. White and Rabun counties both scored silver medals.
White County High School ranked at #54 statewide. The report says WCHS gets above average marks for College Readiness and Mathematics with “near average” scores for the student/teacher ratio and English Proficiency.
Rabun County High School comes in at #63 in Georgia with a better than average student/teacher ratio and near average scores in College Readiness, Math and English.
US News uses several factors for determining school rankings.
- First, they determine if the school’s students are performing better than statistically expected for all Georgia students.
- The second step looks at disadvantaged students – black, Hispanic and low-income – to see if they outperform all disadvantaged Georgia students.
- They also look at college-readiness performance using Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate test data.
Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology ranked as the number one school in Georgia and is listed as the 4th best school nationally.
