It is care in the old-fashioned way when a physician had the time to sit and discuss concerns you might have, life experiences, and preventative care. That is what you can expect on Thursday, August 29, at the Habersham County Senior Center. It is sponsored by Stephens County Hospital starting at noon. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. You will want to make a reservation and then enjoy Dr. Cecil Brown, a board-certified physician in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.
Stephens County Hospital earned the distinction of “Center of Excellence.” When looking to achieve advanced certification, a hospital must meet the core requirements in the Disease-Specific Care Manual which include three main components: standards, clinical practice guidelines, and performance measurement. When achieving an advanced certification, (such as Stephens County Hospital) they must meet the core requirements plus additional clinically-specific requirements.
The “Center of Excellence” certification is one of the reasons Dr. Brown came to Stephens County. Dr. Brown spent 9 years as a Trauma Surgeon before choosing to live in Toccoa and experience a slower lifestyle. From his patients, he receives glowing reviews. His Google rating is 5 stars. Not only do his patients love him, but also his staff, both in the office and in the surgical unit, love working with him, and it shows. Coming from a small town in Georgia, he went to school and did his residency in Macon, Georgia. He and his wife will be celebrating 32 years of marriage on September 26.
After Dr. Brown gives his talk, he welcomes individuals to come, sit, and ask questions about what concerns them. Maybe you need surgery, suspect you could change a few things to lower your blood pressure or lose weight, or just need an opinion. The Habersham Senior Center, located at 217 Scoggins Drive, Demorest, Georgia, is the place to be.
One of the advantages of having surgery at Stephens County Hospital is, not only the excellence of care but the SWING bed. This enables patients to stay and get the rehabilitation that they need instead of being transferred to a rehabilitation center which happens at larger hospitals.
Other areas will be covered as well. Brittany London, Operating Room Manager and Total Joint Center of Excellence Coordinator at Stephens County Hospital, will discuss the advantages of improving one’s quality of life through knee and hip arthroplasty. London is a wife, mother, entrepreneur, dog enthusiast, and avid swimmer.
Certified by The Joint Commission, the Stephens County Team specializes in Total Joint Replacement using advanced technology, treatment, and surgical techniques. Total Joint Replacement is a surgical procedure in which parts of an arthritic or damaged joint are removed and replaced with a metal, plastic or ceramic device called a prosthesis. The prosthesis is designed to replicate the movement of a normal, healthy joint, allowing you to return to your everyday activities and restore your range of motion.
London has worked as a Registered Nurse since 2011 and obtained her Master of Science in Executive Nursing. She has varied experience in emergency room medicine, intensive care specialties, case management, and perioperative services. She will be available to sit down with you and discuss possible care options.
Hannah Goodbar, an Occupational Therapist and the Director of Rehab Services, is one of the main reasons Stephens County can keep rehabilitation at the hospital after surgery. Goodbar has been at Stephens County Hospital for over 15 years, working as an OT for 12 years and a manager for 3 years. She received her Master’s in Occupational Therapy from Brenau University. Goodbar will also be available to discuss options with those who attend.
Learning, listening, and living well will be the theme of Thursday’s lunch at the Habersham Senior Center. Make it a priority. You will be so glad you did.
