The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says preliminary results from the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office indicate human remains found in Lumpkin County are those of a Gwinnett County mom who went missing six months ago.
Tosha Herron disappeared October 7, 2016 while traveling to meet a friend in Blue Ridge.
Her father discovered her wrecked car five days later in a wooded area off Highway 129 north in Lumpkin County.
The mother of three was not with the car when it was found.
Her remains were discovered Thursday during a search of the Chestatee Wildlife Management Area. The search was conducted by the GBI, Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office and Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Rapid Response Team. It expanded beyond previously searched areas in the vicinity of where the car was found.
A press release from the GBI says the Rapid Response Team located a boot that was the mate to Herron’s boot found shortly after the wreck was discovered last year. The Rapid Response Team also discovered the human remains.
The remains were sent to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Officer for examination and identification. After they were confirmed as being Tosha’s, a somber post appeared on the Facebook page dedicated to finding her.
Herron took medication for a condition that can cause seizures, according to her father. There’s no word at the present time whether that contributed to the crash.
