The agency that oversees public health departments in 13 North Georgia counties released its latest regional COVID update on August 27. The data shows breakthrough cases are still emerging, but hospitalizations and deaths are not as high among those who have been vaccinated.
District 2 Public Health oversees the health departments in Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White counties.
Data shows there were 1,495 new COVID cases reported across these counties during the week of August 21-27. Of those new cases, 207 were breakthrough cases (13.8%). Eleven of the breakthrough cases required hospitalization. There was one breakthrough death among ten deaths reported district-wide over the same time period.
