Red Basket: A Different Type of Online Fundraiser

If you’re the least bit familiar with online fundraising, chances are you’ve visited one of the many crowdfunding websites that have emerged in recent years. Every site’s different, with a range of fees and features. One we’d never heard of before caught our attention because it doesn’t charge fees and because fundraising campaigns are fully vetted before they’re posted, insuring you won’t be scammed.

Red Basket is a free crowdfunding website supported by Woodmen of the World where individuals can share their story, recruit volunteers and raise money for personal emergencies or community improvement projects.

According to a release issued by the organization, Red Basket is a 501c3 public charity that was founded in 2012 and is headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. Communications Specialist RaeAnn Knoell says, “It is fully supported by WoodmenLife which covers Red Basket’s administrative costs in their entirety so 100% of donations are directly passed thru to the individual or cause.”

What makes Red Basket different from other crowdfunding websites:

1. No fees, not even credit card processing fees

2. Non-profit organization

3. Verification process to ensure complete transparency in donation process

Tracy Allison of Habersham County went through Red Basket to set up an online fundraiser for a local family in need. She says she had to submit verifiable information and documents and says Red Basket followed up on references before creating the fundraiser. While that may be more time consuming, the verification process is valuable to those worried about being scammed.
