The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office has released additional information regarding the case of Shannon James Box, 56, of Tignall, reported missing at Tallulah Gorge State Park.
According to Lieutenant Mark Gerrells II, on Tuesday afternoon October 29, deputies responded to a report of an unattended vehicle in the parking lot at Tallulah Gorge State Park. The park ranger reported observing a man, later identified as Box, wandering near a truck on Monday, October 28. Witnesses noted that he was making peculiar statements, including asking passersby about their beliefs in God and mentioning that “the end was near.”
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the truck still parked but with no sign of Box. A search of the area was conducted, led by Rabun County Search and Rescue. Despite their efforts, including foot searches and drone surveillance, no evidence or clues regarding Box’s whereabouts have been found.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle belonged to Brenda Lipscomb, who identified Box as the driver. Lipscomb shared that he has a history of leaving his vehicle in various locations, often reappearing at her residence without remembering where he left the vehicle or why.
Box has been officially entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system as a missing person.
His last location is believed to be in the area of Jane Hurt Yarn Drive near Tallulah Gorge State Park in Tallulah Falls.
If you have seen Box, or know of his whereabouts, please contact the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office at 706-782-3612 or call Rabun County 911.
