Raymond “Ray” Blackburn, age 92, of Alto, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 21, 2021.
Mr. Blackburn was born on July 27, 1929, in Habersham County, Georgia to the late R.H. and Henrietta Petitt Blackburn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Pauline Ferguson, Hazel Pritchett, Elise Terry Sutton, Daisy Blackburn; brother, Fay Blackburn. Mr. Blackburn was a member of Alto Congregational Holiness Church where he served as a Deacon for over 60 years. Ray was a great and loving Godly man. His family was his life, he was a devoted Husband and Dad. Ray was known to his grandchildren as “Daddy Ray”.
Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 71 years, Pearl Goss Blackburn, of Alto; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Shelia Blackburn, of Carlton; David and Jackie Blackburn, of Gatlinburg, TN; Tim and Barbie Blackburn, of Alto; daughter and son-in-law, Libby and Rickey Gragg, of Cornelia; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 24, 2021, at the Alto C.H. Church with Rev. Scott Ledbetter and Rev. Leon Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Tim Beasley officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel.
