Raymond Duell “Red” Ledford, age 91, of Demorest, Georgia, went to be with The Lord on Friday, May 6, 2016 following a sudden illness.
Mr. Ledford was born on September 18, 1924 in Towns County, Georgia to the late James E. and Bertha Woodring Ledford. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Doyle Ledford. Mr. Ledford was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for many years. Mr. Ledford was a United States Navy Veteran having served his country during World War II. He was retired from Schnadig Corporation with 32 years of loyal and dedicated service. After retirement, he served 9 years with The United States Forestry Service.
Survivors include his loving and dedicated wife of 69 years, Frances Virginia Cash Ledford, of Demorest; daughter and son-in-law, Christy Vanice and Rick Mason, of Demorest; son and daughter-in-law, James Thomas and Lyn Ledford, of Demorest; grandchildren, Elena Ledford Dalton, Duell Ledford, Matthew Mason, Nicole Mason Davis; 9 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Camp Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Barrs officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by The United States Navy, Rabun County DAV Post #15, the Grant-Reeves V.F.W. Post 7720, and the American Legion Post # 84.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, May 9, 2016 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel.
