The Habersham Central Raiders continue to show promise but are still searching for that elusive win. The Raiders fell to 0-3 on the season, 0-2 in region play after a disappointing loss at South Forsyth Friday.
The War Eagles got off to a quick start when QB Davis Shanley scored on a rushing TD fresh out of the gate. The extra point by Alex Barbir put South Forsyth up by 7 early in the first quarter.
The Raiders quickly answered on their first possession after the kick as Michael Babers ran 79 yards for the touchdown. Alex Alvarado got the extra point, tying the game 7-7 with seven minutes left in the first quarter.
South Forsyth pushed its lead to 28-7 on a recovered fumble and two-point conversion in the first, but the Raiders rebounded in the second on a 12-yard rushing TD by Babers. The extra point by Ty Loggins pulled the Raiders to within 14 points.
The War Eagles went full throttle.
South Forsyth’s Shanley completed a 40 yard pass to Guy Morra and later, a 14 yard TD pass to Sam Outlaw, to widen South Forsyth’s lead 41-14 at the half.
South Forsyth pushed its lead to 55-14 early in the third, scoring twice on two recovered fumbles.
Habersham Central then got down to business.
The Raiders scored late in the third on a 5-yard pass and recovered a fumble going into the fourth. They shut down the War Eagle’s offense scoring 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough. South Forsyth beat Habersham 55-35.
Next up, the Habersham Central Raiders take on the West Forsyth Wolverines in Cumming on September 18. Kick off is at 7:30 p.m.
