The Habersham Central Raiders made history this week, advancing to the team’s first-ever Elite 8 with a series win Tuesday over South Paulding.

On April 29, the Raiders took game one of the series, 7-3, before losing game two, 3-0. That forced game three. Habersham took the opportunity to make history with a thrilling 9-5 victory in the third and final game.

The Stephens County Indians will join the Raiders in the Elite 8 as the GHSA state playoffs continue.

The Indians defeated the Redan Raiders May 1 in Class 2A, winning two straight, 4-2 and 2-1.

Banks County’s season ended earlier than hoped Thursday as the team dropped two straight to Washington County. The #8 Hawks defeated the #9 Leopards, 7-4, in game one of the Class 1A D1 tournament. They followed that win with a 4-2 victory in game two.

Dawson County, too, was eliminated from the Sweet 16. The Troup County Tigers defeated Dawson 8-5 to complete the sweep and advance in the Class 3A state playoffs.

Also in Class 3A, #21 Jefferson is up against #5 Oconee County. Check back here for updates.
