Rachel Saxon Echols, age 97, of Alto, Georgia, passed away on October 18, 2024, following a recent period of declining health.
Mrs. Echols was born on December 22, 1926, in Lula, Georgia, to the late Price and Idell Smith Saxon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Talmadge Echols; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Irene Saxon; Sonny and Laverne Saxon; brother-in-law, Howard Collins; and her foster son whom she raised in her home, Terry Hill.
Mrs. Echols was a Lula High School Graduate, Class of 1944. Following her graduation, she was employed at several local garment factories. Rachel was saved, baptized, and a member of Belton Baptist Church. After marrying her Talmadge, she joined Enon Baptist Church. Rachel was a Peach Farmer’s wife and worked side by side with Talmadge for many years. In later years, Rachel and Talmadge fostered many children with the hope to make a difference in their lives.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip and Sharon Echols, of Alto; Clay and Joy Echols, of Alto; grandchildren, April Simpson and Luis, Theron Echols, Kalen Echols and Chelsie; and Jeffrey Echols, all of Alto; great-grandchildren, Eli Simpson, Colton Echols, Delaney Simpson, Kace Echols, and Kinley Echols; sister, Anita Collins, of Gainesville; brother and sister-in-law, Grady and Linda Saxon, of Lula.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, October 20, 2024 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel with Rev. Ray Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Enon Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:15 pm, Sunday, October 20, 2024 at the funeral home prior to the service.
